Swimming Lessons

In partnership with Tonbridge Swimming Pool, we provide swimming lessons for children in Year 3, 4 and 5.  Children will have lessons for 10-12 weeks each year, giving at least 15 hours of swimming tuition during their time at Sussex Road Primary School.  

The National Curriculum expectations are as follows:  

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.  In particular, pupils should be taught to:

• swim competently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres;
• use a range of strokes effectively (e.g. front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke);
• perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

As this is a National Curriculum requirement, all children must participate in swimming lessons.  They will require the following kit:

• Swimming Costume/Shorts
• Towel
• Goggles (optional)
• Hat (optional)
